The Byron Varsity Baseball team hosted their annual Wooden Bat Tournament on Saturday May 6^th. The Eagles played well but ended up taking third place overall falling to Durand and Algonac.

In game one the Eagles faced Durand and took a quick 2-0 lead after the 2^nd inning before eventually failing 10-2 with most of the damage coming in during the seven run 5^th inning. The Eagles had a tough time finding the strike zone giving up 14 walks to go along with 4 errors in the field. Kyle Hulett earned the no-decision going 2 2/3 innings giving up two runs on one hit while striking out three and walking four. Trey Pehrson earned the loss giving up 5 runs on zero hits while walking seven batters and striking out three. Hunter Cool pitched in relief and gave up three runs on two hits while walking three and striking out four in two innings of work. At the plate the Eagles collected seven hits. Hunter Cool and Zac Geiser each had two hits apiece and Payne Staton, Reid L’Esperance and Kyle Hulett each had a hit.

In game two the Eagles took a 0-0 game into the 5^th inning before Algonac broke out to score six runs in the final three innings. At the plate Zac Geiser and Kyle Hulett had the only two hits for the Eagles. On the mound Payne Staton earned the loss giving up one run on one hit while striking out six in 4 2/3 innings of work. Reid L’Esperance came in for relief and gave up five runs on three hits while striking out three and walking six in 2 1/3 innings.
